Imperial College London

Job Description

Imperial College London is delighted to offer up to ten Medical Research Council (MRC) Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) studentships and seven Enterprise DTP iCASE studentships to commence in October 2021.

All potential applicants are warmly invited to attend the Think Imperial event on 18 November 2020 to find out more. Register here https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/think-imperial-tickets-125035184603.

PhD research for three years, followed by a writing up period of up to 6 months, is supported with a stipend of £18,000 p/a. The studentships also provide tuition fees (at home level), a conference fund, a research support and training grant, and additional funds to cover a wide range of research and training activities.

MRC DTP applicants can choose a 4.5 year programme, so as to include registration for a Master’s degree programme from the extensive portfolio offered by Imperial College London which can be followed by the PhD. The stipend at Master’s level will be £17,285. For those who already have a relevant Master’s degree, 3.5-year PhD studentships are also available.

Each Enterprise DTP studentship is tied to a specific Collaborative Award in Science and Engineering (CASE) project. Enterprise DTP students will benefit from additional training through the CASE commercial partner, covering areas such as ethical standards, good laboratory practice, discovery and the development process, the R&D value chain and key activities and investment decisions, and the use of appropriate specialised equipment available to the commercial partner.

Job Requirements

Applicants should hold, or expect to receive, a first class or a good upper second class Honours degree (or equivalent) in an area relevant to their proposed field of research.

Where an applicant does not meet this requirement (e.g. they hold a lower second class undergraduate degree), they are eligible to apply for a 3.5 year studentship if they hold, or expect to receive a master’s degree with minimum merit pass or equivalent (in an area relevant to their proposed PhD) before starting their studentship.

How To Apply

The MRC DTP and Enterprise DTP iCASE have separate online application forms, and for both, the applications deadline is 07 January 2021. You are welcome to apply for both programmes.
